We visit the school and work with them in supporting aspects of the Northern Ireland curriculum and help the school to introduce development issues through a whole school approach. The sessions are delivered one hour per week per class over 4 consecutive weeks. This gives the students time to process and assimilate the knowledge between sessions. We have taught over 300 students to this point.
We focus our work on Key Stage 2 (aged from 8 to 11) and our reinforce aspects of the Northern Ireland curriculum related to development issues. The programme ties in the areas “The world around us” and “Personal Development and Mutual Understanding”
We focus our work on the area of “Learning for Life and Work (LLW)” in key stage 3. We focus mainly on “Local and Global Citizenship” and “Personal Development” to address issues such as human rights, social justice and sustainable development.
SPECIAL NEED GROUPS
We apply a different approach tailored specifically to the needs of the groups in collaboration with their teachers. We focus our interactions with participants based on the group specific advice of the teachers. We utilise smaller groups and aim to demonstrate the value each person has, regardless of their personal circumstances.
